Why Do People Hurt My Feelings ?
Have you ever felt like people are constantly finding ways to hurt your feelings? Do you find yourself easily wounded, harboring resentment long after the incident? It might be difficult to accept, but the root of the problem lies within. Holding onto resentment is a common weakness, a trait many of us share because we haven't yet mastered the techniques to live a truly fulfilling life.
You might think, "But I need to teach that person a lesson so they don't do it again." However, it's essential to examine your true intentions. Often, the desire to "teach a lesson" stems from a need to make ourselves feel better. Thoughts like, "I hope something bad happens to them" or "I wish the worst upon them" might surface. But before you act on those impulses, remember that life is like a game of cricket, football, or any other sport—where we are merely the players, and the ultimate referee is God, who delivers the final judgment. This is where the concept of Karma comes into play. Justifying your negativity only traps you further.
Why should you let go of resentment? Consider this powerful story: Two Jewish prisoners reunited after 30 years. The first one asked, "Have you forgiven the Nazis yet?" The second replied, "Yes, I left it all behind and am leading a happy life now." The first one then asked, "Have you forgiven them?" The second responded, "No, I haven't." The first replied, "Then, my dear friend, they still have you in prison." Forgiveness is a gift you give not to others but to yourself.
But how do you cultivate the ability to forgive? Think about it—when you visit a hospital, are you surprised to see sick people? Of course not. When you visit a jail, are you shocked to find criminals? Absolutely not. Similarly, spiritual wisdom teaches us that people in this world are often influenced by anger, greed, lust, envy, and gluttony. They are imperfect, and expecting saintly behavior from them is unrealistic. When they hurt you, don't be surprised. Instead, take it as an opportunity to grow your inner strength. In today's world, the real enemies aren't external; they reside within us—anger, envy, and resentment.
Others can influence your mood, making you feel elated or depressed. If you reflect on it, you'll realize you've handed over the remote control of your life to others, allowing them to play with your emotions. It's time to take that remote back. Building mental fortitude through forgiveness and spirituality will help you reclaim control.
Remember, protecting yourself is crucial. Being a good person doesn't mean allowing others to hurt you. You need to establish boundaries. But even with boundaries in place, unpleasant circumstances are inevitable. You might encounter a difficult boss, and changing jobs won't guarantee a better one. The wisdom shared here can help you navigate negativity and maintain your peace of mind.
By practicing forgiveness and embracing spirituality, you can shield yourself from the emotional turbulence caused by others, and truly take control of your life.
